More random thoughts

I’m still on vacation, and still working with a microscopic keyboard that has a space bar that is dysfunctional in  two directions.  Either no spaces at all, or too many.  Forgive the messy typing.  It’s too  difficult to fix.

Question for  you?  What is it with the radical  left and nudity?  Zombie caught a Breasts not  Bombs protest at Hillary’s San Francisco campaign  headquarters, and I really had to ask myself what the breasts had to do with things.  Also, if we’re going to have exhibitionists, why can’t attractive people be the ones doing it?

We pulled over to a park today to have a picnic.  There was a large covered area, filled with picnic  tables and there were lots of picnickers — only none of them  were using the tables, they were all crouched the  wind  on the spikey grass.  Why?  Because  two  extremely drunk homeless men had set themselves up in  the middle of the picnic area.  They were loud, smelly and, to anyone with sense, potentially dangerous.  They double-handedly managed to turn  a whole area off-limits.  I thought of them when I read about Gavin Newsom’s travails with the homeless and the druggies  in Golden  Gate Park.  What no good liberals want to admit is that a few smelly winos or  druggies can  ruin a park, library or neighborhood  for hundreds or even thousands  of people.  Their impact is far disproportionate to their numbers.

D.M. Giangreco warns us that we can expect the Islamists to create a Tet offensive just in  time for  General  Petraeus’ report.  While the  military will understand  what is  happening, the media won’t, and will surrender just as they did  with  the original Tet offensive.

With regard to the two border guards convicted for committing  a crime using a weapon, even though the  weapon is part of his job, Earl has done a good job of defending  his belief  that the prosecutor was overly zealous and that his tactics  are dangerous  in  terms of prosecutorial  decency and honesty.  Earl directed me to a post  that  examines  reforms that would  end prosecution power  plays and potentially clean-up  our criminal justice  system.

And on that note, I’m  signing  off for another  24 hours or so.  Having read DQ’s  great question about the Judeo-Christian God and Jihad, I know you’re in good hands.

  1. BW, Zomby’s link was hilarious. They are all 60’s and 70’s libs reliving the radicalism of their youth. And they ain’t young any more. They’re back in summer camp, Woodstock, etc.
The next more will probably be a free love demonstration.
    Complete with condoms.

  3. 1960s – Decade Without Quality Control.

Found myself caught on a remark in the Nevius piece regarding the attempts to clean up Golden Gate Park: “inevitably there are complaints that we are unsympathetic to the homeless.”

I find that interesting. Complaints from whom, I wonder. I also wonder why anyone would listen to such complaints. The only thing I know about San Francisco is that I wouldn’t live there on a bet (yes, I have visited), but I am quite sure that, as in all cities, there are shelters, complete with an array of services, and more help available on the house than anything most of us who pay the bills will ever see.

I am also aware that there are problems with shelters, they can be dangerous, a lot of people don’t like them, etc., etc. – but then again nobody ever sold them as a weekend at the Grand in Monte Carlo. They are shelters: they exist to provide a place to keep the rain off, get warm, and have something to eat. And they can be rendered safe, cleaned up, and kept clean, too; without all that much difficulty.

So, given that this is freely available, the conclusion is virtually inevitable that the people in the park are there because they wish to be there, not because they have no choice – clearly they do have a choice.

And what they’re doing is choosing to make the park unlivable for everyone else. Which, in my universe, they have no right to do, and don’t get to do, and I don’t much care whether that’s seen as “unsympathetic” to them or not. I am at something of a loss to know why we should be sympathetic to that.

When Rudy Giuliani came into office in New York, he was faced with this same accumulated crap that years of democrat administrations had left him: homeless people and panhandlers everywhere. On a scale that would leave San Francisco breathless. In New York it wasn’t just in the parks, either; pretty much all of Manhattan Island had become well-nigh unlivable. But when the decision to address it seriously was taken, Giuliani got on top of the problem in about 72 hours.

You scoop them up. You listen to none of the BS, either from them or the bleeding hearts. You assess and winnow them out: some go to jail, some to the VA, some to Harlem Valley; etc. The part about which there is no option is: ALL get off the streets and out of the parks.

And normal people can go into Central Park at midnight and look at the stars again (there are a couple, the really bright ones) if they want to. And they do. Cops on horses are in the park 24/7, and the key is that they tolerate no rannygazoo whatsoever: nothing.

That’s what it comes down to: you make up your mind not to tolerate it. Newsom doesn’t even have to think of anything original: all he has to do is get his mind on something other than his central appendage, take a line through Giuliani, and copy him.

Oh, and perhaps, forget about worrying over whether o not he’s seen as “unsympathetic.”

  4. So funny- infantile, look at me! actions, hypocritical and about nothing.

  5. Hey BW –

With regard to the whole breast thing. . . the first thought that came to my mind when I saw the photos of the “Breasts Not Bombs” women was why something similar to that never happens to candidates on the right? Don’t get me wrong – I’m DEFINITELY not requesting something like that – but the left certainly seems to have WAY more of its share of absolute wackos.

And then they wonder why we struggle taking them seriously.

  6. Can you imagine how these gals would fare in an Islamist state like the one that would result if they got their way and we didn’t use our bombs?
