I did a post (here) about the tactic of using children as a wedge in the immigration debate. I said that, just because illegal aliens have children once they're here — making those children American citizens — that is not a reason to grant those parents amnesty, even if it does break families apart. In any event, the families can re-unite in Mexico. I think it's worthwhile highlighting one of the comments I received regarding that post:

I found the whole comment impressive, because it runs the gamut of debating points from the other side of the aisle: personal insults, threats, boasts, and, rather incongruously, vile homophobic slurs.
What I wonder is whether this is a rant to make the author feel better, or if he thinks this will actually change my mind on the subject. As I've shown, I'm perfectly willing to rethink my position if someone makes a strong, logical argument. This kind of attack, however, only affirms my sense that my thinking is probably right. If it weren't, my "opponent" would actually have a counterargument, not just an ad hominem attack.
UPDATE: I'm hitting the big time, since I got another prime example of reasoned thinking from the Left. I'm quoting it below, although I've done a little "expletive deleted" work on it, not liking obscenties in my posts. The comment had all words in their full glory:

It's definitely a viewpoint, but scarcely a convincing one, is it?

As I said back on that thread in response, I’m not white and I wish racists would stop assuming everyone on one side is white. Judging by character and not skin color, seemed to have not been on the lesson plan for these fake liberals.

My goodness, something like 40-50% of their GNP comes from the US, that should tell you something.

The latinos got to be crazy. Such pround culture and long history of presence in the new world. How can you call the whites racist, when within latino cultures blacks and dark completion hispanics are looked down upon. As an black man born and raised in these United States, it seems so obvious to me that tha hispanic people have had a history that is not so pure as they would want others to believe. The hispanics need to educate themselve before offering themselve to the world as a valuable asset. Your history has been that of destruction. Spanish was not the language of this part of the world. Hispanics are just as much invaders as any other racial group. Heck they are the people that started racism in this part of the world. Even in medieval Europe when African people came into the european nations of the time, they were accepted for their person. It was when the other Europeans followed the destruction bought on by the Spanish, they took on the habits that the Spanish had created of destroying people.
Why would the hispanic people wish to sell themselve to someone that they might label as racist? That makes no sence to me.Why would they choose to want the same benefits of the other American people, when it was they that had the opportunity to create the new world to what it is now. You can not belame anyone but yourself for your lacks. Even the slaves of the Americas opened schools upon their release to freedom. There is no reason for the orginals(?) to be demanding anything from anyone. The hispanics are the ones that had the opportunity to become modern, long before everyone else, including the white. Hey Hispanics get your act together. You can not belame anyone but yourselves for your situation.
