Ostrich mode again

American Thinker has a pithy rundown of the NY Times’ approach to the story about the four men (coincidentally enough, the four Muslim men) who tried to kill or hurt a couple of million people in New York. I’d noticed that myself when I checked out the Times‘ online coverage. That is, I couldn’t see the hierarchy of space allocation in the hard copy, but I definitely could see that it was waaay less important than Obama’s basketball skills.

The San Francisco Chronicle was equally cavalier at its website. Yesterday, it’s main web page was absolutely silent on the subject. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and assumed that the web page was fixed for the day, and that Sunday’s webpage would tell the story. I couldn’t have been more wrong. If you go here, you can see a screen shot I made. Since I’m completely inept at screen shots, it’s lousy quality, but you can still see what’s not there: any mention of the plot to destroy a large part of New York.

In fact, the Chron doesn’t seem to have any independently generated story on it at all. I could find it only by doing a word search for “New York,” which finally led me to the Chron’s AP feed story.

I appreciate the fact that a foiled plot is less newsworthy than a plot that takes place, but I would nevertheless expect two things from a sensible media: (1) relief that it was foiled and (2) anger that it was contemplated. Normal human beings experience both those feelings when they find out that our police and investigatory forces protected them from a horrible event. The politically biased, PC, multi-culti fruitcakes in charge of our nation’s newsrooms obviously feel different.

UPDATE: Here it is, Sunday afternoon and, while the SF Chron has changed its online front page, it’s still not mentioning the NY Plot. (And again, sorry for the lousy screen shot quality. I’m still trying to figure that technique out.

UPDATE II: Ben Johnson also takes the Times to task for its manifest intent to pretend the plot never happened.

UPDATE III: Here’s a screen shot of Monday’s Chron, which again offers a front page completely silent about the plot. As you can see, though, I’m figuring out the mechanics of screen shots, which is at least one good thing.

  1. I don’t appreciate the psychological scalpels that the media uses to torture people with.

There is a basic lack of ethics involved when you continue to make a group of people, Americans in this case, feel helpless against violence and never allow them to deal with it in a positive manner. Never a moment of relief, never a moment of joy… just continual cuts with the scapel.

  2. B, I think the definitive assessment of the Old Media’s conduct in such matters has already been made, though I can’t recall who said it first:

Yes, they realize we’re at war. They’re on the other side.

  3. The psychological operations to reduce morale will continue until you hayseeds wake up and elect the proper kind of President, a Democrat. Then everything will start getting remarkably better, remarkably fast. Trust us, we hold the sacred duty of protecting your right to know only what we know is right!
