I bet she flew there

It strikes me that the anti-global warming brigade would make a more impressive stand if it started doing a bit more telecommuting:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is on an overseas trip to embrace an audience and a topic for which President Bush has shown scant affection: “Old Europe” and global warming.

Pelosi, D-Calif., and seven other House members left Saturday for meetings with scientists and politicians in Greenland, Germany and Belgium on ways to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

The trip comes shortly before a climate change summit next month involving the leading industrialized nations and during a time of increased debate over what should succeed the Kyoto Protocol, a 1997 international treaty that caps the amount of carbon dioxide that can be emitted from power plants and factories in industrialized countries. It expires in 2012.

Pelosi’s probably been traveling more than she should since taking over the Speakership.  Wouldn’t a phone call do?  Or maybe having her face televised on a big, big monitor?

Of course, Pelosi is from the Bay Area, and as I’ve known for years and the Zombie has brought to everyone’s attention, Bay Area activists aren’t known for their consistency.  When the Zombie took pictures at Al Gore’s “the world is going up in flames” talk in Marin County, she included a gallery devoted to all the SUVs filling the parking lot for his speech.  I’ve personally always loved seeing these gas hogs tooling down the road with “No War for Oil” and “Stop Global Warming” prominently displayed on their bumper stickers.

To give credit where credit is due, more and more Priuses are showing up on the road as well.  They’re quiet — too quiet for some people — and they certainly use smaller amounts of fossil fuels.  This is a good thing, if only to undercut profits for oil producing dictatorships.  Sadly, they have their own environmental sins, and I’m willing to bet that none of the purchasers know about this, nor would they care to learn about it after having invested so heavily, both economically and emotionally, in these cars.

  1. Hadn’t you heard?

Being green means never having to say you’re sorry……and never knowing why you should be!

  2. Y’know, if it would take 10 years to get ANWAR on line, and we had started right after the Cheney Energy Symposium in 1998, we would be pretty dang near to bringing a new supply of oil not controlled by terrorist states or Central American communists. And I further dream…if closed down military bases had been converted to refineries…..
Why have the experts meet if we don’t listen to what they say? Oh, yeah, it was that Cheney Halibuton thing…

  4. Book, I know something that wastes more energy than the Prius.

    It is human hubris.

  5. She is one of the worst speakers we’ve had since I’ve been alive. I won’t claim the entire history of the USA, like Carter has. lol.

This republican party has no balls, and you want them to have telecommunication skills? (Please excuse my language, but I’m not exactly PC.) That’ll be the day…

  6. Does Bush have the balls to face up to the Europeans, who want to put his head in a vice;

File this one under Unproven Conspiracy Theories.

In a news release, Global Warming Key Factor in Increase of Cat Population yesterday, Pets Across America President Kathy Warnick said global warming is thought to be a contributing factor to the dramatic increase of stray, owned and feral cats.

Pets Across America, self-described in the release as “the largest umbrella organization for animal shelters serving more than 130 million people” also stated that cats outnumber dogs by 13.5 million and that the number is growing and that animal shelters across the United States are reporting skyrocketing influxes of cats and kittens being brought into their agencies. Most importantly, however, they used their news release to tell the world that “many believe global warming is extending cat-breeding seasons and causing the cat population to swell.”

I repeat their claim: “many believe global warming is… causing the cat population to swell!”

WARNING: Below is where the conspiracy-theory angle, though still very much unproven, comes into play. Proceed at your own peril.

After taking into account this earth-shattering news from Pets Across America, can you honestly believe it’s a coincidence that this Kansas City, Mo.-based group chose to issue its news release only one week prior to the airing of Bob Barker’s last episode of The Price is Right? No way!

I suspect that Barker, arguably the world’s most-visible advocate of spaying and neutering pets, opted to retire this year only after coming under immense pressure from a below-the-radar campaign by animal shelter advocate groups like Pets Across America. Their never-made-public argument: Barker’s spaying and neutering advocacy was a flop, and we should have been concentrating on stopping Global Warming.

Something to think about from Bob McCarty Writes™.
