Wasn’t it Rosie who said that mere heat can’t make large buildings collapse? I wonder how she, and her fellow travelers, will deal with the fact that mere heat made a major portion of an East Bay freeway collapse. It is, in some ways, 9/11 on an infinitely smaller and non-malevolent scale.

It should be clear that this is a George Bush /Rovian plot to punish California and, especially, the Bay area for….whatever.
She and her fellow travelers left the land of reality a long time ago. What makes you think they have any intention of “dealing with a fact”?
You know…the average fool watching The View…even if they doubt The Government Did 9/11, might still sit there thinking “huh…she raises a good question. How did fire melt steel and concrete?” After seeing the evidence of this freeway fire (where presumably there weren’t even forces associated with a 767 at flight speed), they may very well say, to themselves, “Well, perhaps I don’t know all there is to know about metallurgy”.
But it is a frustrating and infuriating assumption that Rosie and her like minded moonbats will ever be swayed by mere evidence. It isn’t their ignorance that is the problem…it’s their self-confidence that does the damage. Rosie wasn’t asking to be educated about construction materials…she was declaring her expertise and therefore reaching a conclusion that was obviously pulled from her ass. Obvious, that is, except to other celebrities and their fawning admirers.
A few years ago a co-worker’s husband attended an anti-Bush rally in New York City and the most memorable and oft repeated part of the trip was that he was in the same mass of people marching as Jeanine Garofalo. He didn’t actually see the celebrity…it was just rumored that she was up front somewhere. These people…can’t be convinced. NO evidence is good enough.
It is where Bush Derangement Syndrome is easily defined. To admit that any part of their slapped together mountain of evidence against him is in some way faulty…well that threatens the house of cards, doesn’t it? So, the fact that any AP physics student in any high school in the country (or any community college welding student, for that matter) could easily refute Rosie’s proclamation that steel “doesn’t do that” is immaterial. Must be on the Rove payroll.
While talking and discussing things with these people no doubt fills a certain masochistic desire…there is little else to be gained.

On “The View,” Rosie’s unpredictable nature kicked the show’s ratings up about 18 percent since last year and moved it to fifth place among daytime talk shows, from its longtime 10th place perch.
The jump translated into about a 15 percent ad-rate increase – a shift that contributed millions to the show’s bottom line, says an ABC staffer.
“That’s big,” said Mediaweek’s Marc Berman. “Especially when you consider that nine out of 10 daytime shows are down in the ratings.”
All of that came because of, or despite, Rosie’s various feuds, ranging from public spats with Donald Trump and Asian-American organizations to conspiracy-theory talk about 9/11.
“I would say that Rosie clearly helped electrify ‘The View’ and has positioned herself nicely to enter into discussions with several syndicators,” said John Rash of media-buying firm Campbell Mithun.
Wherever she lands, and some industry experts believe a new show could debut as soon as 2009, O’Donnell has a proven Midas touch with TV. ”
How can you not LOVE this country?
Heat can make anything collapse, Book. Because with enough heat, the very atoms and molecules will begin to vibrate and shift around, losing its solidness.
Short of a disintegration ray, max heat will have to fill the gap for now.
To Kurt’s point – it isn’t just Rosie that has shifted away from reality, it’s the whole world that is going mad! Western Civilization is under assault by 8th Century barbarians and the EU’s main concern is cows farting (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/662397.stm.). Meanwhile, the U.N. worries about polar bears’ swimming abilities.
Yet, in the U.S., there are no enemies to worry us except Republicans, fundamentalist Christians (or, perhaps, all Christians) and conservatives. What, me worry?
Kurt, the entire world is going mad. It’s a true Weimar moment!
Danny’s right.
Imagine a more sane society, one in which people read books, cared about the education of their children, paid attention to the evidence before being buffaloed by the media…..who would be watching Rosie on The View?
Does ANYONE who regularly reads this blog waste their time with the mind-destroying drivel that parades across daytime TV?
Gah!
Interesting point, Earl. My family does NOT watch daytime TV AND we read a lot of books. Never made that connection, actually. Hmmmm!
Watching tv was a waste of time, so cable’s been cut.
Congratulations, Danny – one way (and I admit it’s no more than a “quick and dirty” method of sorting things out) in which I judge parents’ real caring for their kids is whether they have TV or not. It takes a strong commitment to the well-being of children to give up the “idiot-box”, but it’s one of the best decisions you can make for the long-term well-being of your offspring.
Read out loud every day to your kids, encourage them to read rather than watch TV and play video games, and when they get to school they won’t fit in and they’ll look like academic super-stars….even if they are actually rather ordinary in intellect. And not “fitting in” at school means that they won’t be shallow celebrity-hounds at the mercy of every new fad that Madison Avenue or the d–n politicians are selling.
I don’t think that too many Americans guy into this philosophy, though. Hence my delight at finding at least ONE other family whose made the break!
OK, let’s see how this could work.
The East Bay is in deep, deep blue country. The truck was carrying fuel, which is controlled by BushChimpyHitlerMcHalliburton Rove and the Carlyle Group, the Skull and Bones, the evil Christian Conservative Redneck Redstate Cabal. So, they drive a truck loaded with fuel oil under a critical overpass in the Democrat Progressive Left Bay area and blow it up, thereby accomplishing the following:
1) Less fuel in the market drives up the price of oil. BushChimpyHitlerMcHaliburton laughs all the way to the bank.
2) Bay area traffic is snarled, making it more difficult to get to the Global Warming Gaia Mother Earth protests to stop the rape and bake of Mother Earth. Again…BushChimpyHitlerMcHaliburton chuckles in evil glee.
3) People worry about terrorism and cast doubt on the proclamations of St. Rosie O’Donnell O’ the Hood (”Fire doesn’t melt steel”). Whoa! A two-fer!
ChimpyHitlerMcHaliburton simultaneously smears an icon of the Progressive movement AND justifies launching a new reign of terror against oppressed Muslims (the brown ones, anyway) and fellow travelers (er, has anyone seen Cheryl Crow, lately, or is she in detention?).
But, we know that BushChimpyHitlerMcHaliburton is a moron. So, if not him, why…it’s got to be that evil KRove!!!!
Now, notice that KRove happens to have five letters, which is the number of points on the Wiccan Pentagram (5, that is) and only one less point than the number of points on the Israeli/Zionist Maagen David star. So, you see, it’s all because Rove is part of a Wiccan /Zionist-wannabee conspiracy. But wait, Wiccans are good. They LOVE Mother Gaia. Hmm, must be an attempt to discredit Wiccans as well. Is there no level too low to which KRove will stoop?
Think about them marbles as you take the BART to your capitalist conspiracy job cubicle tomorrow morning.
There…does that explain it?
It explains something, I guess, but it’s hard to believe even the O’Donnell woman never noticed that it’s entirely possibly to weld. Which seems to involve… well, heat. And the way it works is, it, uh, melts… umm, metal.
O’Donnell never heard of welding. Hm.
That had occurred to me too, JJ, but since I knew from the get-go that I couldn’t phrase it as amusingly as you ended up writing it, I didn’t try.
Congratulations Danny, you are the only one with a firm grip of reality, : )
