I was very impressed, as George Orwell would have been, with Barbara Boxer’s comeback when she was criticized for attacking Condi Rice personally during Senate hearings. Boxer let us, the Americans, know that her words weren’t spoken in terms of policy, ideas, or military strategy. No, no — nothing so manly or practical. Instead, in a California girly-girl way, they were the result of deeply felt personal feelings and an effort to establish friendship bonds with Rice. You doubt me? Here’s Boxer in her own words:
Boxer, defending herself against critics from the right, said Friday that she was “speaking truth to power” at a Senate hearing Thursday when she confronted the secretary of state — who is unmarried and childless — noting that neither she nor Rice will “pay a price” personally for sending more American troops to war.
“I was just saying what I felt,” the California Democrat said in an interview with The Chronicle. She said she would not apologize for the exchange because “I delivered a very strong message and tried to find common ground with her … and I tried to draw us together, and not apart.’‘
Yech! I’ve been slimed, and I think I’m going to take a shower now.

del.icio.us
digg it

Love that phrase from our unbiased reporter, too: “defending herself against critics from the right.”
They were only from the right?
The entire country, as far as I can tell, found her performance repellent.
Poor Barbara – no brains, all emotion.
Video: Boxer gets personal with Condi at Senate hearing
Boxer’s Low Blow January 12, 2007 — Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, an appalling scold from California, wasted no time yesterday in dragging the debate over Iraq about as low as it can go – attacking Secre tary of State Condoleezza
I feel really dumb since Bill was able to do this but I can’t figure out where your trackback url is. I followed your suggestion in your Trackbacks post but am still clueless. Any help would be appreciated. (I’m very new to trackbacks and just started using them today.)
Barbara Boxer responds to criticism
Barbara Boxer responds to the critics on the right but what’s amazing is that there are no critics on the left.
Please ignore my previous comment, as you can see I figured it out
It really was easy and I feel like an idiot!
“speaking truth to power”
I guess just for this week, “the power” resides with minority females. Next week it will be with abused children, if needed to cover another Pelosi slander.
Oh come, have some pity for Barbs for pity’s sake. She is simply another example of the many folks on the Left who believe in their own propaganda. That is to be pitied, although you shouldn’t let your guard down. All propaganda is dangerous, even the propaganda believed in by the propagandists.
I don’t know that I’d go that far, Reformed Chicks – currently on Vote.com 88% of respondents think Boxer is indulging in “vicious” politics. Not even “dirty,” but straight to “vicious.”
They can’t all be from the right.
Count me as a R-winger who does NOT agree with the charges against Boxer. Methinks Babs is getting skewered with the wrong fork. Read about where the senator went wrong — and what the REAL insult was to Rice HERE.
Boxer went wrong in saying that she wouldn’t pay any price for this war. Obviously we already know, but did she have to yell it in our faces? That’s a bit crude don’t you think.
We already know they won’t pay the price when they defeat the US. Condi doesn’t need to hear it again from Barbs.
The Dems really are the Copperhead Party, aren’t they?! I haven’t heard of ANY Copperhead even mildly condemning Boxer’s comments. They can’t all be morons like Boxer. I just don’t understand what they think the ultimate outcome of their policies will be, or don’t they bother to think that far ahead? Maybe they think they will be personally immunized from the consequences by their privilege and, anyway, “*/! happens, so why not just blame the Republicans?”.
“speaking truth to power”
I am so sick of liberals using that phrase. I would love to see how much speaking they would do in the face of power that has the ability to have them executed (e.g., Kim Jong Il or the former Saddam.)
