England continues to exterminate itself

I think for many of us, England is one of the old world countries inextricably entwined with images of Christmas. When I think of England, I think of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol; of the Christmas tree, which the Germanic British royals elevated from a quaint German custom into a national Anglo tradition; and, of course, of classic Christmas carols, such as Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Good King Wenceslas, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and the ubiquitous (if you have children) Twelve Days of Christmas.

I need to purge all these thoughts from my mind, though. The brainwashed British, in thrall to political correctness and afraid of threats both legal and political, are erasing Christmas from the national discourse:

Three out of four employers have banned Christmas decorations from their offices for fear of offending other faiths, a report claimed yesterday.

Law firm Peninsula said the workplace was becoming caught up in the “wave” of political correctness affecting festive traditions. A survey of 2,300 employers found that 74 per cent had banned decorations because they were worried about offending other faiths, while half thought they made offices look unprofessional.

Peter Done, managing director of Peninsula, said the findings followed a number of cases involving local authorities banning festive activities and decorations in high streets and shopping centres.

“Christmas trees and decorations may well be a thing of the past in many workplaces this Christmas as political correctness culture has spread to the workplace.

Although employers who are enforcing the ban are sceptical and dismayed by this trend, they feel that they have little choice in the matter due to the threat of litigation; as they have to protect themselves, their reputation and their livelihood.”

In other words, while we in America are fussing about Target’s decision to ban the Salvation Army yet again, and lauding Wal-Mart’s decision to utter the dread “C” word (that would be “Christmas”), the British are quietly but effectively exterminating themselves, not by killing their bodies, but by wiping out their national character.

By the way, you’ve probably noticed that the article from which I quoted quite coyly doesn’t mention which external pressures are causing British employers (as well as towns) to retreat from the age old Christmas celebrations that have characterized Britain in one form or another since the end of Pagan times. The rest of the article, which I didn’t quote here, is equally quiet about those forces against British tradition. I think, though, that if we all put our heads together we can figure it out. (Hint: It’s probably not the Jews.)

Robert Kennedy created a Chinese curse along the lines of “May you live in interesting times.” He was on to something. Nothing can remain unchanged. Whether we like it or not, the world is in constant flux. It’s just that now it seems to be in more flux than usual and, as part of that, we’re definitely seeing the passing of the old guard.

My kids will grow up knowing an England that bears little relationship to the England of the past which, while it saw various upheavals over the centuries, was always responding to strictly British pressures, all of which played out British themes and cultures. What we’re seeing now is more akin to the changes England last saw in 1066, when foreign invaders mounted a brutal attack on her soil and took over her culture. The only difference now, almost a thousand years later, is that, while the indigenous Brits in 1066 put up a fight before the takeover, the current Brits are simply laying out the red carpet for their new overlords.

UPDATE: I’d barely published this story when I discovered an LGF story about England that I’d missed earlier today: “A veiled Muslim woman will deliver this year’s alternative Christmas speech on Channel 4, the broadcaster has said.” Let the cultural death watch continue.

UPDATE II: When I wrote the above I assumed that in Britain, as in France, the Muslims have become a sizable block. For example, in France, Muslims are now 5-10% of the population, although that percentage is a bit misleading, because it hides the fact that they’re a larger part of the young population — that is, French Muslims are the future (or so I gather from Mark Steyn). In Britain, however, Muslims are a mere 2.7% of the population. Admittedly, out of a population of 60,609,153 that means 1,636,447 which is a fair number of people, but it’s still an itsy-bitsy part of the whole. Why, then, are the British so frightened of this population group? It may be almost two million people but, in theory, it can still be squashed like a bug.

Part of the answer lies in the squeaky wheel area. Muslims are vocal in the disapproval of anything that offends their sensibilities, and people who are less confrontational, and the average Brit probably is, will always back down.

But I think another part of the answer lies in the fact that actual Muslims — not all Muslims, of course, but Muslims nevertheless — have engaged in actual acts of violence. To give this a context, let me point to Hitler’s demonizing the Jews. German Jews were, in fact, an exceptionally law-abiding, well-behaved group. All that Hitler could point to were shadowy, unproven and unprovable, monetary conspiracies and to the intangible of race pollution. Despite the hysteria, there were no manifest Jewish acts to support Hitler’s claims.

The opposite is true with the Muslims. Although we’re busy painting Islam as a religion of peace — and there is no doubt that the majority of Muslims are peaceful people — the fact remains that there is an active majority engaged in spectacularly violent acts. 9/11 is not a shadowy economic conspiracy, it’s the murder of almost 3,000 people. Same for 7/7. Same for the acts of bloodshed in Holland, Spain, France, Australia, Bali, Indonesia, the Phillipines, the Sudan, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, and on and on and on. You don’t need to look under tables or peer into dark corners to see the conspiracy — it’s playing out in front of us, large as life and twice as natural.

And so I think the British, quite simply, are cowed. The troublemakers may be only a fraction of a fraction, a small portion of those 1,636,447 Muslims in the UK, but that small percentage has shown a willingness to act, and it’s not shy about making threats about further violent action. And so, while the British government has weapons and warriors, the average Brit has no faith in the government’s willingness or even its ability to put down the revolution within. The average Brit responds to this fact, day by day, by giving a little more appeasement away, in the always futile hope that just a little more will finally be enough.

  1. We have a problem here as well, Bookworm. Jews and Christians are both on the target list (no pun).

The disappearance of home Christmas observations continues. There is a paucity of outside Christmas home decorating this year.. and last, and the year before. Oh, the garish are up, lights and displays. But the smaller homes with their simple decorations..they are bare. Those that honor with their heart and not for display.

    Fewer Christmas cards are exchanged.
USA TODAY recently featured a list in their weekend magazine of ABC’s so-called Christmas programming. A month full of shows that have only one connection with Christmas, their titles. (‘Rudolph’ or ‘Frosty’ or ‘Santa’) I have archived some 80’s TV Guides as an example of the difference.

Oddly enough, it’s American business that is ‘decked to the walls’ for the PC acceptable term “holidays.” It’s openly Happy (your) Holiday, whatever you make it to be. Every store seems to have its traditional or otherwise displays. They are far more plentiful and more sophisticated than are home displays. We are like England in that Christmas is removed from its Christian roots. But, true to our materialistic spirit, older Christmas memories sell. Commercial Christmas is PC permitted. It encourages the mobs seeking Playstations. It keeps merchants in the black. But woe to any town who puts that star, manger, or Hanukkah symbol on the courthouse lawn.. It’s the ACLU’s hunting season.

My last visit to the Post Office found that only 2 Christmas stamps were available; the rest I was told were ‘for other religions.’ One must honor Hanukkah. But other religions.. whose?

We must give thanks that your 1984 scenario has yet to reach the US.

  2. You say that Muslims are vocal in their disapproval and that only a small number of Muslims are troublemakers. I agree. The disgrace is that the small number is allowed to intimidate the majority of Muslims and the troublemakers have ben recognized as spokesmen for the entire population. The multi-cultis have abandoned all those Muslims that don’t hate western culture enough.

  3. Praise Lord Jesus for your blessed posting in your blog online. I’m reading you newly for the first time and am pleased with your writing about traditional American Christian values. You’re a lovely person.

  4. I fear that Europe has wandered from its Judeao/Christian values and that, too closely, America follows on the same, slippery slope.

  5. I’m not “busy painting Islam as a religion of peace.” It isn’t.

  6. Thank you again for your involved discussion, Bookworm.

What is puzzling is that England cannot see Muslims as a religion of violence. What will it take?

    Perhaps the ordinary man can.
England’s elites continue to think otherwise. Mr. Galloway is a prominent example, of course, but, in recent years, those who watch open debate in the House of Commons have been treated to any number of backbenchers who rose in unwavering support of Palestinian– and other Arab– murder and violence. This traditional support is apparently strong and deep.

Elites control much of England’s life. She lacks our republican and democratic basis. I think part of our answer lies in the nature of their thinking, and the future they want for England.

  7. If an army of armed Moslem fanatics invaded England’s shores and behaved like a traditional army, I believe the Brits would find their, ahem, balls and fight. This invasion is much more insidious. It is from within. It is inch by inch. It exploits “progressive” positions to make people who have lost thier identity and values (Europeans in general), to give in and in and in. Any student of anthroplogy knows that civilizations sometimes die. They sometimes commit suicide- though of course, not on purpose.

I fear this very much. This is where so-called “progressives”, a misnomer if ever there was one, in reality bring the world ever closer to the most backward thinking, medi-evil mentality on the planet. From Progressive to shariah. Christmas will be banned in England for fear of offending. But wait, public Islamic displays will be tolerated, again for fear of offending.

And incidentally, your example of Nazi persecution also began inch by inch, slowly. The death camps didn’t come in the first year. No, discrimination was tested, world reaction assessed with each new decree, persecution, etc, given the Nazis the confidence they needed to become the monsters they became. So it is today, there, and here. Our imams had damn well better lose in their test case on American resolve and pc idiocy- otherwise it will progressively become ever more sharia.

  8. There is a thread people should read. This lady is in Scotland, I believe if my memory is correct.

You may draw some conclusions. But here’s a hint. It has something to do with the topic of this post.

  9. Quite frankly Ymaksar I fail to see what my post has to do with any of this.

With respect to you bookworm I can find no common ground with you on the above. I would identify myself much more with the liberal viewpoint which you are trying so hard to free yourself from. Especially in light of some of the comments. But I respect your right to express your opinion.

  10. Is it not obvious. Those that rely upon the police, rely upon everything and everyone except themselves, will find thuggery quite a thorn let alone the Islamic Jihad.

Tony Martin is another good example, and easy to search for.
