I agree BW, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Republicans surprise everyone and win despite what the damn liberal media is saying. If that happens, what will the Republicans say in 2008? Will it still be Bill Clinton’s fault?
I personally believe the Republicans will have a better chance of winning the Presidency in 2008 if the Democrats take control of Congress now. This will give the Republicans tons and tons of ammo in 2008.
If Republicans keep control of Congress next Tuesday they will lose both the Presidency and Congress in 2008.
It is a sad story.

Our current two-party system is a sad story!!
sorry for posting twice — I got click happy

If the GOP don’t retain the House and the Senate I’ll be surprised.
Anohter prediction: There will be no exit polls and the media will say that Conservatives came out in droves because of John Kerry’s botched joke.
And. . . in related news, “Hacking Democracy” premieres on HBO tonight.
I tried watching it, T.S., but apparently somebody hacked my cable connection and all I could get were old Ronald Reagan movies. “Hasty Heart” and “Kings Row” weren’t bad, btw.

Methinks you’re pulling my leg. . . It’s not on til 9.
But speaking of Ronald Reagan, I stumblwed upon thsi
You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path,” – Ronald Reagan, stumping for Barry Goldwater in 1964.

But speaking of Ronald Reagan, I stumbled upon this quote on Andrew Sullivan.com, just today:
You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. TS really shouldn’t be demanding that people be slotted in with the side of the Righteous or with the side of the Totalitarian. He might not like where he finds himself after such standards have been drawn, arbitrarily in some cases by his encouragement.
Not everyone can win in a war to the knife. Somebody’s got to lose.

I wasn’t demanding that. Ronald Reagan was. Though I liked that quote so much, I posted it twice. Oops!
But anyway, whether it be the James Madison or Thomas Jefferson or Ronald Reagan, the message remains the same.
The founders knew that tyranny was the natural progression of all government and that the job of American citzens was to distrust government and protect individual liberty.
Instead, those who appear to be pooping their pants over Islamofascism are telling us to be similarly cowed at the expense of our country.
What did Voltaire say? People who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities? Terrorists might be able to kill us, but they dont have the power to enslave us or make us wear burquas or any of the other nonsense people spew. The only ones who can take away our liberties are our elected officials.
There is a wimpish underside to the American spirit that is currently making a comeback. In the early 1950s, Madison’s Capital Times editor John Patrick Hunter took to the streets with a petition, (which was actually the Declaration of Independence, along with portions of the Bill of Rights) and tried to get people to sign it. Only one in 112 did. The rest found it too subversive.
That mealy mouthed, save-my-own ass cowardice is more of a threat to the America the founders envisioned than Islamofascism. One can kill our bodies. The other will kill our country.
