My internet got into the holiday spirit and shut itself down. So it’s only now that I’m able to do what I intended to do long ago: Wish all of you a very happy July 4th!

John Adams in a letter to his wife about the Declaration:
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty.
